TAKEOVER Exhibition and Zine Project

Hello!
We are raising money for a zine project and traveling art exhibition. The funds we raise will help pay for:
- Printing artist copies of the zine
- Distribution of the zine to gallerists, curators, and art critics to increase the exposure of female and genderqueer artists
- Shipping costs for out-of-town artists in the upcoming TAKEOVER San Francisco exhibition
- Shipping and gallery costs for a future traveling TAKEOVER exhibition
- Layout design and printing costs for a second issue of TAKEOVER

Please help us take over
We would be so grateful if you could any small amount to help us reach our goal! In a time where so many artists are under-valued, we believe it is more important than ever for female and gender non-binary artists and arts workers to have a voice and for their artwork to be recognized. Please help us to highlight the intelligence and talent of these artists and to inspire our community to keep taking over.

About TAKEOVER Art Zine
TAKEOVER is a not-for-profit high quality 100+ page color self-published zine project featuring 37 female and gender non-binary artists and curators organized by artist Serena Cole. It was created in response to a conintuous lack of recognition for young female and gender non-binary artists by contemporary galleries, museums, and art critics, and in the context of a growing misogynistic political regime. Participants were asked to contribute an image of their artwork and some text describing their experience of being a female or gender non-binary person on earth. The issue is a means of showcasing outstanding contemporary artwork, as well as an opportunity to foster meaningful conversations. From Em Meine's heartwrenching email to her mother to 15-year-old Sky Shapero's worries about Trump's election and the implications it might have on her rights, the texts included in the zine invite a powerful dialog with the reader and a unique opportunity to connect the artist's experiences with their artwork.

Participants include Teresa Baker, Kim Bennett, Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo, Mia Christopher, Sydney Cohen, Serena Cole, Melissa Dickenson, Christina Empedocles, Kristin Farr, Terri Friedman, Rema Ghuloum, Bean Gilsdorf, Stef Halmos, Julie Henson, Elise Irving, Mary Anne Kluth, Koak, Danielle Lawrence, Ace Lehner, Lana Licata, Bruna Massadas, Brigid Mason, Em Meine, Ashley Stull Meyers, Maysha Mohamedi, Kate Nartker, Cate Nelson, Crystal Quinn, Megan Reed, Elizabeth Russell, Sky Shapero, Sarah Thibault, Leah Thomason Bromberg, Tracy Timmins, Jamie Vasta, Marci Washington, and Carmen Winant.

"TAKEOVER: San Francisco" Exhibition
Thirty artists from TAKEOVER's first issue will exhibit their work in a group show at Alter Space Gallery in San Francisco in November, 2017. Donations will help artists from outside the Bay Area from locations such as New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Beaumont, TX participate in the exhibition by covering expensive shipping costs.

Future exibitions and zine issues
Donations will also help us pay for the layout design and printing of a second issue, as well as help fund shipping costs for a future traveling exhibition!
