Taj's Graduation Trip to Hamilton

Donation protected
Taj was diagnosed with Aspergers and ADHD at the age of 7.

Since head start he has had difficulties with social interaction, speech and repetitive behavior. Surprisingly enough, it hasn't stop him from making friends, constructively speaking up for himself and others, as well as studying academics with persistence to get good grades. Life has been challenging for Taj but everyday he continues to not give up on himself. He wokes up daily enthusiastic about life’s next adventure.

Even after years of being mocked, mimicked and bullied by students and teachers, he hasn't allowed it to break his spirit, he has remained courageous, free spirited and forgiving. He attends school without resentment towards his bullies and continues to try inspire everyone to spread love by example.

In June, he lost his buddy of 11 years. It hit him hard. He slowly sunk into a dark place of sadness and grief. While grieving he had a bout with severe depression. It was one of the most heartbreaking experiences ever. He started to eat less, he became less active and all he wanted to do was sleep. He noticeably lost weight and nothing seemed to get him back to his wildly silly, sarcastically humorous and too hyper for most to keep up with self.

It seemed like nothing was going to help, then, I started hearing him listen to Hamilton the Musical and then he started getting out of bed and dancing throughout the house. When school started, he would be singing Hamilton out loud, in class and yes, I received a phone call from one of his teachers saying that Taj was disruptive during class and talking about Hamilton. Lol. Hamilton was on constant replay in his mind. It was like he had an epiphany (“Hamilton is my thing, it's my happy place”), because Hamilton became his motivator. It was a sigh of relief to see him getting back to his old self.

Music has always been therapeutic to him, but nothing helped him through his depression like Hamilton. And I mean we tried everything we could think of but nothing helped, except Hamilton. It sparked his interest and motivated him to get up, dance, sing, accept his loss and get back to being happy. It was enlightening to see him up, dancing around and singing out loud, therefore I promise as a graduate gift that I would take him to New York to see Hamilton. He said, "Mom, it would be a dream come true." I started looking for tickets and was shocked. I never imagined the tickets for decent seats would be so expensive. I felt a sense of despair.

He has been through so much, yet he has continued to beat the odds. He has worked so hard in school. He has continued to be positive despite his struggles. I am so proud of him and I don't want to disappoint him that's why I need your help.

Please donate as little as $5 to help gift Taj with airfare, hotel cost and tickets to see HAMILTON.

A friend mentioned that people with frequent flyer miles can donate by providing us with miles to purchase the flights, if you have a lot of frequent flyer miles you can donate them, we’d gladly accept them as a donation to purchase our flights.

Donate as little or as much as you like, anonymously if you prefer to directly help us reach our goal, so that Taj could see Hamilton live.

Thank you in advance for your support.
