Tahsis Rock Climbing Wall

$635 of $1,775 goal

The purpose of this fundraiser is to collect funds to pay for an inspection of the Tahsis Recreation Center's rock climbing wall. This would be the next step towards the re-opening of the wall, which has not been utilized for over a decade.

The vision is to offer, assuming that legal and insurance requirements are met, people of all ages access to the climbing wall and to have a certified instructor supervise and teach them how to belay and climb safely. This would significantly support the physical & mental well-being of the residents and guests of Tahsis and would allow the community to better utilize the recreation resources that are available.

Council approved an inspection of the rock climbing wall at the March 20th council meeting. This was with the condition that the required funds are donated and not obtained through tax payers dollars. This is due to the fact that there is a possibility that the inspection would fail and the tax-payer dollars would have no positive impact on the community (aka. a higher-risk and large expense). This GoFundMe page has been created as a method to collect donations, which will go directly towards paying for the inspection by Andrew Higginson of High Performance Walls Inc.

The local Director of Recreation is supportive of the project and is willing to help work towards its success.

Today a group of helpful volunteers facilitated a bottle drive in Tahsis, which was very successful! It's exciting in a way as we anxiously wait to see how much the deposits will cumulatively add up to... Thank you to everyone who donated their bottles/containers and/or cash towards the climbing wall fund.

We got a big fundraising coming up in May so stay tuned for more information!

Thank you SO much to those who have donated to the Tahsis Rock Climbing wall initiative. Many of the individuals who donated don't even live in the community, which confirms to me over and over again how supportive and passionate the (outdoor-oriented) Vancouver Island population is.

With $480 raised from the GoFundMe page thus far, along with funds raised from emergency kit sales and an upcoming bottle drive, we are well on our way to reaching our goal of $1,775 to pay for the initial inspection. We are also in the process of organizing a dinner/live-auction event. I have additionally contacted various British Columbia-based climbing gyms and climbing-oriented companies to tell them about our initiative and ask for their support through promotion, equipment donations/discounts, etc if they are willing and able.

Stay tuned for more updates! Once again, THANK YOU.
