Vulnerable Children in the Congo

Donation protected
Children in the city of Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are living on the streets, malnourished anmd neglected, escaping from homes where there is no food and where child abuse and other forms of violence are common, escaping from rebels who slaughter their parents.

In response to this crisis, 24 year old Lebon Kabene founded a grass-roots organization in 2015 to provide food, clothes, medical care and education for these children - Together for the Well-being of Vulnerable Children in Africa (GEWEVUCA ).

"At this moment we have 300 vulnerable children - orphans, children in the street, children from army groups, children who are victim of HIV, children who are victim of sexual violence, refuges, children who are from poor families. We do our best to teach them, to give them clothes and medicine and to prepare food. Many are suffering from bad nutrition and kwashorkor." - Lebon Kabene

Since then, with our help, the founder of GEWEVUCA, Lebon Kabene, has been providing nutritious meals, clothes, medical care, education and the experience of caring to over 300 homeless and vulnerable children in his home city of Goma, DRC.

With practically no financial resources, Lebon and his team of men and women have been working tirelessly with these children, demonstrating the capacity and commitment to have a big impact with very little money.

In the fall of 2017, with our help and a donation of land from the South African UN delegation, GEWEVUCA built a small facility for children’s housing, education, medical care, meals and the distribution of donated clothes. Monthly gatherings bring together 25 to 30 community leaders and 300 vulnerable children for a nutritious meal, cultural celebration and awareness-raising about human rights, peacebuilding, gender-equality and the plight of the children.

Lebon and his team have big plans for 2018 - expanded education programs, sensitization sessions about child soldiers, gender-based violence, HIV, and environmental protection, practical skill training in raising chickens, shoe repair and tree planting, as well as the monthly gatherings.

Please join me in seeing this is a unique opportunity to have an immediate and significant impact. The work of GEWEVUCA has been completely dependent on private donations. Lebon and his team have worked mostly as unpaid volunteers.

Lebon has prepared a very modest budget of $14,830 for 2018 which he is happy to share (contact him at [email redacted]). Please consider a gift in any of these areas.
-  A monthly gift for teachers ($50/month/teacher) and director ($80/month)
- A monthly gift for the community meals/gatherings ($300/month).
-  A gift for the awareness campaign on peace, gender equality and environmental protection ($3200/year).
-  A gift to set up the chicken-raising project ($3000/year).
-  A gift for medical, school and office supplies ($1740/year)

GEWEVUCA is actively seeking larger donors and partners to fund a longer term plan. In the meantime, donations from this GoFundMe Campaign are required to sustain the work with the children of Goma.
Please consider a contribution to help these children.
This is an clear situation of immediate need where very little money can make a big difference.

Thank you!
