Thank you so much for taking a minute to learn more and possibly help us on our journey to start a family together. Please read on with an open heart, open mind and put yourself in our shoes.
This is not an easy thing to put out there in the open, nor is it easy to ask of our family and friends for help. Life paths like ours are often journeyed behind closed doors and with little publication of the details, but this is a journey that we’ve decided to share.
We will be getting married in September of 2019 and then plan to start IVF to get pregnant in October. What a honeymoon hey? We started seeing our fertility doctor in February of 2018 and have come up with a plan to get pregnant called reciprocal IVF. This is when one person carries their partners egg and then subsequently used their own egg in the next pregnancy but with the same donor, so that our children not only have a part of each of us, but are also biological siblings. We have decided that this is the path we want to take to pregnancy. As you can imagine however, this process is extremely expensive, and may take several attempts to be successful. We have been advised by our fertility doctor, that for the first attempt and all associates costs, it will be about $12,000. This will not include the costs to fly out for appointments from Iqaluit to Ottawa, accommodations and rental cars for getting to and from our Clinic appointments. So you can see how quickly the extra costs will add up. We estimate the first round with the multiple trips out, and additional costs will be around $18,000, and hopefully we are successful.
Nunavut is among the many provinces and Territories that will not cover IVF with medical, even though we are medically deemed “infertile”, and so we are reaching out to our friends and family. They say it takes a village to raise a child, in our case, it will be a village to make a child. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read this.
