Loved fiercely by so many, she personifies what it means to live life to the fullest. Some of the hallmarks of being Aida are her sunny but caring personality, quick wit, and no filter responses to life's unpredictability. From New York City, to Arizona, to Florida she has amassed a circle of friends and loved ones who would do anything and everything for her. She is everyone's biggest cheerleader. If you ask anyone of her friends they will tell you "She is my best friend.” She makes everyone feel as if they are the most special person in her life. That is the essence of who she is.
June 2016, held the promise of a wonderful summer to look forward to with warm sunny days, beach plans, catching up with friends and family. Little did she know it would be the beginning of a journey that was unimaginable. After months of enduring pain that would not dissipate she finally decided to go to the doctor to determine the cause.
Like millions of women across the world, she’s diagnosed with breast cancer – Stage 3 later developing into Stage 4. After months of chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy seven months later, she seemed fine. Unfortunately Aida's cancer continued to progress.
The most recent diagnosis as of Saturday, Monday, May 19th is that the cancer has progressed to a brain condition called Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis (LC). It is a rare complication of cancer which spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. LC occurs in approximately 5% of people with cancer and is terminal. This causes blurred vision, strenuous headaches, causes the body to clamp up with no mobility, unable to speak clearly (slurring of words) where she cannot be understood and increased pressure in the brain. These episodes are increasing day-by-day.
The doctors determined that a shunt surgery would stabilize the pressure that is in her brain. Monday, May 20th she will undergo this procedure.
Our Princess Warrior’s hope and faith for a cure and longer life have never wavered. She hasn’t stopped laughing and enjoying her time with family and friends. Her will to live has never diminished. God is wonderful and has blessed her with the greatest group of supporters!
The doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are in search of different types of treatment to extend her life. The treatments are costly, one that will require the help of all of us coming together to relieve strenuous and costly medical bills .
The situation is urgent! We have created this Go Fund Me in hopes that collectively, all of Aida's loved ones can raise the money to pay for treatment. These funds will be a tremendous help as she explores all avenues that can lead to a potential life-saving treatment.
