Swings & Roundabouts is a new theatre company for emerging playwrights, directors and actors to connect, share and showcase their talents.

The response to our first ever call out, ‘Old Meets New’ was overwhelming, we fielded over 250 applications from actors, directors and playwrights.

Our aim is to form a community where we engage in each stage of theatre making, using theatre as a way to give back.

All box office profits from our first showcase at the Southwark Playhouse on March 24th will go to Shelter England, which helps millions of people every year struggling with homelessness through advice, support and legal services.

We believe theatre is a powerful platform for engaging in social issues, and together we can create a sustainable model where we are not only exchanging skills, but we are working together for a wider cause.

We have started this Gofundme for audience members to support us if they believe in our mission. With funding we can expand our reach and host longer runs of topic-focused productions, investing in rehearsal space, props and publicity. We would also like to continue with this model of callout, peer-run workshops and final showcases. At the moment, actors, directors, playwrights and our production team have been working for free. In an ideal world (and hopefully the future), we could be paid for our time and efforts- whilst still donating all box office profits to charity.

These showcases can be an opportunity for people to respond to real problems in a practical way.

Let’s make thought provoking theatre, together.
