Swihart Family Rent Assistance
Dear Friends and Family,
I’m not one who likes to ask for help as it makes me feel uncomfortable. But our family is facing a crisis. It is with a humble heart that I am writing to ask for your help.
Just before Thanksgiving, my husband Lynn began experiencing swelling and discomfort in his right knee. This condition continued to worsen, causing him to have to stop working on December 9 of 2015. After several doctor visits, tests and rest his condition is not improving. His doctor finally filed disability paperwork on December 30th. We are not yet sure (1) when benefits will become available and (2) how much his weekly benefit amount will be. Because we have gone for a month without Lynn’s income and because the amount disability pays is minimal, this has put our family in a desperate financial position.
Our biggest area of concern is our rent. We pay one of the lower rents that can be found anywhere in the Bay Area ($2,200/month). Our Landlord has been so gracious to us over the years as we have both experienced job losses and inconsistent income due to Lynn working in the construction field. At this time however, he has communicated to us that he will have to evict us at the end of February if we are not able to pay our rent. We do not have the income to pay January or February’s rent and we are using my paycheck to cover food and utilities as well as our basic monthly bills.
The doctor’s prognosis is undetermined as of right now, as Lynn has been referred to yet another specialist. We pray for answers, but most of all, we seek God’s healing.
I am humbly asking for help to raise $5,000.00, which will cover two months’ rent and give us a little extra towards food. We are praying and believing Lynn will be healed and will be able to return to work no later than March 1st, if not sooner.
If you would please:
(1) Pray that Lynn's knee would be healed.
(2) Consider giving a donation to assist with our rent through February.
(3) Share this with your family/friends/on-line communities.
We appreciate you. Your prayers during this time of uncertainty mean so much to us.
THE GOOD NEWS. In August, Lynn was approved for disability through Social Security. We only had to wait three months, which is a miracle. This monthly income, and the income our two dependent children also receive from SDI pays our rent. But just our rent. We are truly thankful for this provision.
THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS. Lynn is still unable to work. No diagnosis as of yet. He is taking so much medication now that I fear it's taking a toll on his body. He is losing weight and has been having issues with his stomach. He has a scope on 4/18 to find out about that. We appreciate your prayers.
In unrelated news, both of our cars need to be repaired, The alternator on our van just gave out. Our car has a host of undiagnosed issues and we only drive it when we have to. It's these sort of things that are never in the budget and cause me so much concern.
Lastly, Medi-Cal is kicking us off because our income was too high last year (go figure!). So, come May we will have an additional $600 month payment for Lynn's medical alone.
The short story is that we could use some financial help to get our cars fixed and get caught up with arrears if you feel led. Most of all, we covet your prayers as we continue navigating this journey. It's scary, but we trust the Lord. He hasn't let us down yet.
We appreciate you all so very much and feel blessed to have you in our lives.
Thank you for your continued prayers.
We just found out this week that we have exhausted the State Disability, which was about $500/month. We are hoping to be able to refile, as he still cannot return to work performing his normal duties.
We are receiving an additional $900 from a private policy that we have, but are still short about $1,000/month for our rent and without the State Disability, we are short $1300/month for our rent.
At this point, I feel we need to look into applying for low income housing, but it's a long process and I'm not sure I have the emotional energy.
Please continue to pray for healing and provision for our finances.
We appreciate you all so much.
We recently filed a long term disability claim, something we've been paying into privately for over 20 years and had forgotten about. We aren't sure how much $ comes with it, but we do not believe it to be more than $500 a month.
We are still struggling to make our rent. Please continue to share and give as the Lord leads you. And please continue to pray for healing for Lynn.
Barbie you sent me the book I could not afford I am sending your prayers and a small donation as we live off of a very small pension. Every little bit helps. May God be merciful and hold you all within his arms, I know he will provide for you. Love and Blessing Dottie
