Sweet 2 Year Old Named Mikayla

Hi Everyone,

My name is Cecilia, I am 24 years old and the oldest of six children. This post is for biological cousin, who we love like she is our sister. Her name is Mikayla, she is a beautiful, smart, funny - loving toddler who will be 2 years old December 9th. My mother has 6 children (including Mikayla). My mother was rewarded custody of Mikayla from her birth parents, after they were informed they would not be able to keep her. Mikayla has had a rough start to life. Born addicted to herion, she was a very frail, small baby. She was in the hospital for a month so she could detox. Once that month was up, and my mother gained custody of Mikayla, her life started to get a little better. Unfortunately, Mikayla has had multiple medical issues ranging from shakes and tremours in her sleep, to having a monitoring device attached to her 24/7 for her breathing and heart rate. Fast foward almost 2 years later, teething, crawling, walking and talking - she is now doing better than ever. Thanks to the love, support and assurance of my mother (the ONLY mother figure Mikayla has ever known), myself and my other brothers and sisters. However, her life is now being shaken up; her birth mother wants to regain custody. Both of Mikaylas birth parents have had a long battle with drug addiction throughout their lives. Her birth father relapsed twice that we know of already, and has not put forth any interest in seeing or talking to Mikayla since August. Her birth mother has chosen to live a life that is not fit for a toddler. On November 29th, my mother is going to court to once again try and protect the future and well being of Mikayla. A future we fear for if Mikayla is not represented the right way. We fear for Mikaylas future and well being if the courts decied to give her back to the birth mother. Since my mother is a single mother of 6 and unfortunatly lost a good job early on due to Mikaylas medical issues and hospital stays, this is why we are asking for help. This money would be used to help get legal representation and advice Mikayla deserves. This money will help Mikayla's voice be heard. Most importantly, this money will hopefully help keep Mikayla in the best environment for a growing toddler.
