Suzy Walds Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On Thursday 11/29/2018 after helping her son Nick with his homework and getting him to bed, Suzy sat down with Steve (her fiance) to order building materials and plan the next step in their home renovation. Afterwards they retired to bed around 11pm. Sometime around midnight while they were sleeping a blood clot lodged into the left side of Suzys brain causing a stroke to begin. Steve woke up around 4am to Suzy thrashing around erratically and he recognized something was seriously wrong.  He immediately called the paramedics and they arrived within minutes taking her to the nearest hospital from which she was flown by helicopter to the Washington Hospital Center.

After several brain scans they determined Suzy suffered a major stroke and it was too late and dangerous to remove the clot or give her blood thinners. The brain damage was severe and irreversible leaving her paralyzed on her right side and unable to speak, swallow, or support her neck and head to be able to sit up.  She went into surgery later that day to relieve pressure on the brain so no further damage would be done. To do so they had to remove half of her skull and insert it into her abdomen until it would be replaced in a few months.

Suzy’s level of recovery and the recovery time are unknown, she may never fully recover- we don’t know at this point if or when she will be able to return to her regular life or work. Suzy is the mother of two boys Nick (13) & Osage (19) who are being cared for by there father (Bill).  After our 16 years of marriage Suzy and Bill have remained friends and living 2 blocks apart to best co-parent the boys and share 50/50 custody.  Suzy and Bill share in all the expenses for the kids healthcare, schooling, and extra curricular activities. When Suzy's sick leave is used up and her disability coverage kicks in she will loose a substantial portion of her income which will create a major financial deficit for her and our family. We don’t want Suzy to be faced with any more debt and critical milestones missed - such as her desire for her son Osage to finish college.

Suzy is one of the most caring, loving, and giving people you will meet.  If you know Suzy you know she is a young (48), very strong, very stubborn, and a fighter. The road ahead is going to be long and rocky but I know she won't give up.  Please keep Suzy, Steve, Bill, Osage and Nick in your prayers. Most importantly envision her fully recovering.

We are raising money to pay for her her half of the kids expenses to help them continue on with their regular lives and cover some medical bills that her insurance doesn't cover.  Please help us by making a donation in any amount you are able and definitely share our story with anyone who might be able to help. We greatly appreciate the support.

Thank you!
Suzy, Bill, Osage, Nicolas, and Steve
