Suzanne Lee Memorial Scholarship

One of the first things our mother said after being diagnosed with a Grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumor in February of 2017 was, "I pray for something good to come from this." Though her story didn't turn out the way we had wished, she has shown us what it means to have real determination, strength, faith and passion for what she really loved - her family, friends and teaching.

In March 2017, Mom was awarded South Carolina's Adult Education Teacher of the Year for her excellence in teaching. We couldn't of been more proud of her. Her passion for teaching was felt by all that knew her.

Instead of retiring after her diagnosis in 2017, she forged on until January of this year, when the disease became too much for her to bare. Even after leaving work, she was determined to recover enough to teach again. She loved being able to help students obtain their GED so they could have a brighter future for themselves. She knew how important education was and how it would change the trajectory of their lives.

On June 6th, 2019, Mom joined her beloved mother and father in Heaven - leaving behind memories and a legacy that will be treasured by all that loved and knew her. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, a mother that adored her children, a nurturing "Mimi", a caring sister, a great friend, and an unforgettable educator.

We would like to honor her legacy by starting The Suzanne Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit a student(s) that has graduated from the Adult Education Program in Horry County, where Mom taught. This annual scholarship will be awarded to a candidate(s) that embodies our mother's spirit and is looking to continue their education to create a better future for themselves.

Please help us answer our mother's prayer by showing that even in great sorrow, something beautiful could come of this. Thank you in advance for your contribution, love and support in helping us continue our mother's legacy.

With love,
