30864884_1529976787172463_r.jpegIn 2016, Jamaican-born singer, songwriter and chef extraordinaire,  Suzanne Couch,  was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in the spine which threatened to leave her paralyzed.  Emergency surgery was performed and the surgeon’s prognosis for survival then was between 3 to 12 months.  Subsequent to this, a lump detected earlier on proved to be an aggressive, triple negative inflammatory breast cancer.

Since then, she relentlessly continues to exude a level of bravado, courage, grace and insurmountable strength that has touched the lives of thousands,  all the while undergoing intense treatments of chemotherapy and radiation.

In June 2018, despite being in excruciating pain and because of her generosity and selflessness, she played an integral role in a successful charity event for the Hope Institute of Jamaica, where she has received treatment. Suzanne showed up FULLY for her fans, family and friends.    Established in 1993, the Institute’s mission is to provide free cancer treatment.

Combining two of her winning passions – music and food – Suzanne, alongside her daughter Sarah and her Big Band that includes her devoted and loving husband Peter, contributed to raising over $500,000 plus further donations of over $1,000,000 since then.

World-renowned Joss Stone and legendary, award-winning Toots Hibbert generously gave further musical input and support.

Deeply committed to the progress of Jamaica, her generous support in the field of music, entertainment and the culinary arts spans decades and speaks volumes.  Throughout, she has contributed to various feeding initiatives across the island.  Check out her latest collaboration with daughter Sarah Couch called ‘ChewnIn’ on YouTube.

Suzanne and her community need your help.  Now at the stage where there are no further medical options available to her in Jamaica, she is now in Mexico to receive treatment from Clinica CIPAG.  Initial treatment costs will be well over USD 25,000.00.

Our intended goal is to raise USD 100,000.00 to support Suzanne’s treatment.  We invite you to pay it forward – GIVE lovingly – no amount is too big or too small.

In the words of Margaret Mead:

‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the  only thing that ever has.’

The ripple of your contribution will be felt throughout the music and food of Jamaica and beyond.

We are deeply grateful for your willingness to give in the knowing that as we give, so too do we receive.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the transition of our beloved Suzanne Couch who left us today, Monday 9th July.

The brave soul she is, Suzanne traveled to Mexico one week after her stellar and supreme performance at Strawberry Hill, Jamaica, on 10th June. Befittingly, the event was named Suzanne for Hope.

With immense courage, faith and hope, she battled with an aggressive strain of cancer for almost three years when practically all of her medical team reckoned that she would survive for maybe a year.

To say that she will be sorely missed is a profound understatement. No sooner had she passed, condolences began pouring in from all over the world. Peter, her husband, Sarah her daughter, and her chosen family of friends are awash with gratitude for your loving kindness.

For those who donated, as well as shared the message through your social media circles, we say THANK YOU from the depths of our hearts. These donations will assist greatly in settling the medical expenses that accumulated during her time in Mexico.

Arrangements are currently underway for her remains to be returned to the land of her birth, one that she loved fiercely as is abundantly clear through her food and her music.

A beautiful clip of Suzanne’s journey through music is attached.

Thank you all once again!!!

In just over a week, thanks to EACH and EVERY one of you, we are on our way to attaining our target goal to aid Suzanne in her healing journey. THANK YOU!

Suzanne continues to fight with all her strength and although she has had a few setbacks since arriving in Mexico, the doctors are always at her side to ensure she gets the best possible treatment. The prognosis has not been good but we are still very hopeful that a miracle will happen soon. I thought that miracle could have been today when I heard she woke up happy and hungry (always a good sign), eagerly awaiting the arrival in Mexico of both husband Peter and daughter Sarah, as reported by Maxine Walters, her true and loyal friend of umpteens of years who accompanied her to Mexico,

The camaraderie, love and support that continues to pour in is beyond encouraging and heart-warming. With each day, each breath, each step, each hurdle, Suzanne knows that we're all with her and it gives her the impetus to keep on. This Gofundme campaign reminds us to dwell in possibility. In small numbers, great things are possible and indeed, we do shift mountains -- exponentially so.

Only two weeks ago, Suzanne, surrounded by her family and friends, gathered to support a worthy cause for the Hope Institute in Jamaica, one that offers free care for cancer patients. The indomitable spirit of who she is comes across loud and clear in the video clip posted today. There is no greater gift to express appreciation to you than through Suzanne's divine talent. Enjoy it and if a tear falls allow it. We cleanse to re-create. When one of us heal, we all heal.

We now call upon your generosity of spirit and loving-kindness to pull Suzanne and her family through this very uncertain and daunting phase. As said before, things aren’t good right now but by God she is strong and it is her strength that gives us hope, faith and courage to step up to the plate through your loving donations. As we say in Jamaica, ‘one, one cocoa full basket.’

Now more than ever, it is essential that we remain steadfast with uplifting thoughts and continue to spread the word amongst our communities.

We will continue to keep you posted.

Today I am having a little difficulty to log into the Gofundme "thank you" site to thank you all for your kind donations.
I can see where Suzanne has received from you all so please bear with me as I work with Gofundme to find out why I am unable to thank you individually on behalf of Suzanne.
Do not worry, the site can be trusted and I continue to see your donations.
I have been able to set up Suzanne to receive the funds directly into her account and this she will complete with Gofundme directly, if not yet done.
Thanks again, and God bless you all!!

Already, your generous and heartfelt donations are making a HUGE impact for Suzanne's medical care. Since the launch of the campaign just 3 days ago, we've raised nearly US$6000.00.

Reports from both her and dearest Maxine Walters have been as encouraging as they have been entertaining. Some aspects have also been downright gut-wrenching -- pain levels that have pushed her impressionably high threshold for pain to its limits. Yet in spite of it ALL, Sue continues to exude bravado, grace, humor and immense strength. She is exceptionally pleased with the treatments that she is receiving, and in true Couch fashion, has managed to woo the medical staff and fellow patients with her charm, her dancing and not least of all, her extraordinary voice.

Suzanne, Peter and Sarah along with her global tribe of amazing family and friends are beaming with love and gratitude for the abundance that continues to pour in. Your outpouring of prayers, support and love, fueled by your willingness to give only serve to strengthen her. Please, let us continue to play it forward by sharing this amongst your social media community.

To those who have already donated, we wish for you as we wish for Sue: abundance, courage, grace, health, wealth, love, joy, peace and happiness. THANK YOU!
