Sustainability Garden

Donation protected
We, the students at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) are working hard to start a Sustainable Garden on campus! Our start-up effort is led by undergraduate biology students in Environmental Health and Sustainability. We are preparing to establish a garden to cycle composted food waste from the dining halls into rich soil to grow healthy, fresh produce which will be served back to EIU students.

The produce collected from this garden will be used to supplement "The Cafe" in Klehm hall throughout the academic year. The goal of this garden is to be sustainable and reduce food waste as well as promote the development of skills necessary to maintain a sustainable garden. This garden gives students the opportunity to give back to EIU and help make campus more environmentally friendly.

Our goal is to raise $2000 to help meet our startup costs by the end of December 2018. Construction and purchasing of supplies for the garden will begin in 2019. We have gained permission to to establish the Sustainable Garden, after meeting with University administration and presenting our detailed project plans. The hurdle we are still working hard to overcome is the cost of start-up!

Any help, no matter how large or small, is appreciated. This garden is the beginning of an amazing project aimed to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, as well as involve the community in a fun and educational way.
