Suryadi/Aditiasvara Family Tragedy

Donation protected
On Friday the 9th of August 2019, the unthinkable happened to the Aditiasvara/Suryadi Family on the way to the snow in the Yara Ranges. The family was driving along the Black Spur when wild winds caused a large gum tree to fall across the car on the Maroondah Highway at Fernshaw. The tree struck the vehicle with immense force. Angie Suryadi with her husband Arnold and their sons Oliver (four) and Jonathan (six) were in the vehicle.

The Story can be found here: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/tributes-for-angie-suryadi-who-died-when-tree-crushed-car-20190810-p52fv6.html

Angie died at the scene with Arnold in a critical but stable condition, with injuries to the lower part of his body and Oliver in the critical condition with major head injuries. Jonathan was unhurt in the accident but was conscious during the ordeal. It took emergency services 5 to 6 hours to extract all members of the family our of the vehicle wreak, including Angie's body.

It has been over 4 weeks since the accident and the physical status of both Arnold and Oliver is improving. Arnold has now left The Alfred Hospital and is in a rehabilitation facility where his road to recovery is extensive. Arnold will need to learn how to walk again due to the extent of his injuries and 6 surgeries.

Oliver is no longer in ICU and is in the Neurological Ward at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. He is awake and slowly responding with his voice and eye sight still not fully restored. Thank fully is is breathing on his own and showing slow progress every passing day. However, due to the extent of the bleeding to his brain, there may be a chance that he will never fully recover from his injuries and will require ongoing care. Only time will tell.

Because Arnold is still in the rehab facility full time, he is unable to care for both v and Oliver at this time and may not be able to for at least 6 months. Thankfully some family member's from both the Aditiasvara and Suryadi families have put aside their lives to help care for Jonathan and help Arnold get back on his feet (not literally). The Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) has been helpful with dealing with this case and providing some financial support for the family, but due to their policies, they are limited to how much financial support they can provide the family to help pay for ongoing care for Jonathan and Oliver.

This comes to the reason I have put together this Go Fund Me. The money will go to pay for any extra over costs that is not covered by the TAC, including a full time nanny to look after Jonathan outside of the TAC allowance and temporary accomodation for Jonathan and his carer so that he is able to be closer to Arnold for regular visits. We are also hoping to raise funds for Olivers potential care, this may be for the rest of his life, depending on his recovery.

Both children will also need extensive physiological therapies. As you can imagine, being witness to a horrific accident and also loosing their mother, it could scar a child for life and contribute to longer term physiological damage. The TAC has a set allowance for any therapy sessions (set hourly rate), and unfortunately some of the best child therapies and therapists around exceed this allowance, which means we will be out of pocket for the extra over cost.

Both families have put in a lot of hard work to help Arnold and the children with their road to recovery, but your generous support would mean the world to us all and hopefully make this horrible situation a little better.

God Bless,

On behalf of the Aditiasvara and Suryadi Family
