Help us build the United States’ first permanent memorial to honor survivors of sexual violence.

“All the perpetrator asks is that the community do nothing…” Dr. Judith Herman, Trauma and Recovery

This memorial will demonstrate that our community believes, supports, and stands with survivors in solidarity. We will not remain silent in the face of this pervasive human rights abuse.

About the design:
The memorial depicts two prominent metaphors: mosaic and a ripple effect. The mosaic represents that even broken pieces can be put together to create something whole and beautiful. The ripple effect represents the multiplying power of breaking the silence; by telling our stories, we unconsciously give others permission to tell theirs.

Financing the mosaic panels:
We are hoping to crowd-fund $28,000 to cover the cost of the design, materials, construction, and maintenance of the benches.

To make a tax-deductible donation:
If you prefer to make a tax-deductible gift, our fiscal sponsor, Nonprofits Assistance Fund, accepts checks. Please make sure to designate your gift by writing your check out to: "Nonprofits Assistance Fund: Break the Silence."

Checks can be mailed to: Nonprofits Assistance Fund, One Main Street SE, Suite 600, Minneapolis, MN 55414

Wednesday marked a big step forward for the memorial project. We presented to the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board of Commissioners' planning committee, and they accepted our MOU, proposed location, and concept design.

An incredible group of survivors and allies showed up to add their voices during Open Time and to stand in support during our presentation. Thank you to all those who joined us and to the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board who are helping us make one of the statements of validation survivors in our country have ever seen.
