Memorial to Survivors

$13,210 of $85,000 goal

Raised by 131 people in 26 months
Help us build the United States’ first permanent memorial to honor survivors of sexual violence.

“All the perpetrator asks is that the community do nothing…” Dr. Judith Herman, Trauma and Recovery

This memorial will demonstrate that our community believes, supports, and stands with survivors in solidarity. We will not remain silent in the face of this pervasive human rights abuse.

About the design:
The memorial depicts two prominent metaphors: mosaic and a ripple effect. The mosaic represents that even broken pieces can be put together to create something whole and beautiful. The ripple effect represents the multiplying power of breaking the silence; by telling our stories, we unconsciously give others permission to tell theirs.

Financing the mosaic panels:
We are hoping to crowd-fund $28,000 to cover the cost of the design, materials, construction, and maintenance of the benches.

To make a tax-deductible donation:
If you prefer to make a tax-deductible gift, our fiscal sponsor, Nonprofits Assistance Fund, accepts checks. Please make sure to designate your gift by writing your check out to: "Nonprofits Assistance Fund: Break the Silence."

Checks can be mailed to: Nonprofits Assistance Fund, One Main Street SE, Suite 600, Minneapolis, MN 55414

FRIENDS, WE DID IT!!! WE MET OUR GOAL!

THANK YOU for investing in a vision to create the first permanent Memorial to Survivors of Sexual Violence in the United States. We, as a group, have successfully raised the funds to create a powerful, public, and permanent symbol of our ability to bear witness to survivors, to validate and affirm survivors, and to stand in solidarity with survivors.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR A GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY: Thursday, August 8th, 10am at Boom Island Park (near the footbridge to Nicollet Island).

I don't have the words to properly express my gratitude but I am deeply, deeply moved by your generous support and solidarity. Thank you so, so much.

Thanks to Jeff Anderson & Associates for a matching gift of up to $125,000, we are nearing our goal!

We have just $85,000 left to raise before we can break ground at Boom Island Park.

We are launching an initiative to recognize donors who give at the $1000 level and above.

If you, your organization or business would like to buy a brick as a symbol of solidarity with survivors and be recognized permanently at the Memorial, you can do so here: https://www.survivorsmemorial.org/donate

If you've already given $1000 or more, Sarah Super will reach out to you soon about recognizing you in a brick.
