Surgery for Victim of Assault

Skull broken- surgery to remove the bone and replace with plate and titanium mesh

Sean Stein is the father of a 5 month old baby and 6 year partner to his fiancé. He is a victim of a violent aggravated assault and has a crushed skull and will be out of work and facing many extra expenses. Saturday, Sept 22nd afternoon at about 10:20pm, me and my fiancé, Sean Stein, and our 5 month old daughter were approached my a large man named Wayne Mitchell, in Durham, NC. He approached us aggressively, telling us we couldn’t park where we were parked and that we needed to leave. I apologized, told him that we were in a hurry and were only parked for a second and that I had my infant daughter so I didn’t want to walk half a mile with her and had just used this parking to get closer to where we were going. I put my daughter in the car and told him we were leaving and wouldn’t park there again. As Sean opened his door to get in, he was telling the man that he thought we were allowed to park there because of the Resource Center sign and that we were using the Resource Center. (The man owned a salon to the corner of the building where we had parked)
The man cussed him and slammed the door on Seans legs (breaking our car door) and told him to get in the car and go, Sean opened the door to pull his legs in and Sean told him that we were trying to go. The man yanked Sean out of the car, headlocked him, and beat him on the face.
Sean was taken to the hospital where we discovered he had a broken skull that will need surgery to remove the broken pieces and have plates and titanium mesh put in. He has bleeding from his sinuses due to where the broken bone fragments are putting pressure. He has loss of vision in his right eye and a constant migraine. He is currently on bed rest at home until he returns for surgery on Wednesday. If he sneezes, he must return to the hospital earlier as anything such as that or moving fast could cause bone fragments to move and cause damage to his brain or eye sight permanently.
Sean will be out of job before, during, and after surgery. Depending on how surgery goes, we hope he will be able to return. It just depends on his eye sight and the fact that he may never be the same and suffer from migraines his entire life.
The state will be representing him in pressing criminal charges for aggravated assault. There is a warrant out on the perpetrator at the moment. We will be seeking compensation for medical bills and lost wages. He may have to go on temporary or permanent disability, though we hope that isn’t the case as Sean is one of those kinds of people that always has to be doing something or going somewhere and is an electrician that loves his job and doesn’t want to have to give it up.
Seans job was about 80% of our homes income for me, him, and our 5 month old daughter. We aren’t sure how long he will be out of work and just got our last check of his and are running low on funds and will be facing many financial and emotional burdens due to this assault. Although we will be seeking compensation for this assault, the state will be defending us, and this process can take years to get the bills paid for and your dues handed to you.
Many friends and family have been asking how they can get money to us to help us financially while he is out of work and we are facing extra expenses. If you would like to donate to help us with finances while he is out of work, we would really appreciate it. Money would go to bills that I can’t afford on my own, diapers/wipes/etc for our daughter Delaney, medical and hospital expenses, food gas, and any extra fees for an attorney for a lawsuit. Thank you in advance and please don’t feel obligated to. I just know many people have asked to help us.
If you can’t donate, please just pray for a successful surgery and our family.
Edit: Although this isn’t relevant, we have later discovered that there is a sign stating that where we parked is not his parking and that parking for his business is designated somewhere else
