Help Us Save Our Rescue Puppy

My name is Mary, I'm a single mom in the San Francisco East Bay raising my autistic 8 year old son and 10 month old rescue puppy!


I'm raising money for the cost of our rescue puppy Lily's three surgeries:

• Luxating Patellae - on both knees (Grade 3/4, 4 being most severe) her kneecap is in the wrong place which causes pain and restricts movement.

• Hip Dysplasia - her left hip socket is too shallow to hold the joint in place which causes more pain, hunched back and even more movement restriction.

All funds will go to her 3 surgeries which she needs to start within 6 months, ideally sooner.

We got Lily in May of this year to help my son get over a fear of dogs and to learn compassion. She came with her own special needs, typical of a rescue, which we were ok with because she was such a perfect match for Luke. She had a lot of the same sensory issues my son has and a very mellow and sweet temperment.

She was rescued from Guatemala but seemed perfectly physically healthy and had good records from the veterinarian office there. About 2 months after we brought her home we started noticing her limping and her legs giving out. We were out of state on summer vacation but took her to a vet and found out about the Luxating Patellae in only one knee.


Once we got home & back to our own vet for xrays, we found all the bad news :( both kneecaps were severely abnormal, AND she had hip dysplasia. 

This little girl has had some amazing good luck being rescued from Guatemala, only to have a LOT of bad luck trailing not far behind. I'm grateful she's here because I hate to think what kind of life she'd have had if she hadn't been rescued.

That said, what an expensive situation! I can't believe how much it's going to cost to fix her little body but I'm going to figure it out somehow. I can't bear to put her down and without the surgeries, her quality of life will decrease rapidly.
