Surgery for NJ

Donation protected
Hi there,

I hope you are well and thank you for taking the time to visit my page.

When I was in my late teens I had fibroadenoma lumps in both breasts that were growing at a rapid rate and so I had surgery to remove them. The removal operation on the right breast left me with such severe asymmetry that I needed reconstructive surgery. This involved an implant. I was told that when the implant needed to be replaced (they last about ten years or so) that it would be covered on the NHS.

Over the last few years, the implant has grown harder and harder to the point where it is now a bit like having a solid tennis ball stuck in my boob. I can no longer comfortably lie on my front. I went to my GP who confirmed that it needs replacing and she referred me to the breast clinic. Following a mammogram, the breast surgeon confirmed that I have developed capsular contracture (when natural breast tissue forms into scar tissue around the implant).

She confirmed that the implant needs replacing but the NHS can no longer cover the cost of this type of reconstructive surgery due to budget cuts. The worst-case scenario is that the implant will rupture soon if left in much longer. This means that I need to have this surgery done privately and ASAP.

I've spent most of the first half of this year pretending this wasn't happening (ostrich mode). And most of the second half of this year hoping it would sort itself out (La la land mode). I do not have the means to cover this unanticipated cost. I run my own small business and do not have health insurance. Those who are close to me know I have been low for much of this year.

With the help of my therapist I have now realised how much this has been impacting my mental health. This has also affected my ability to work and generate income. But I am now ready to face the music and get this sorted so I can get back on with enjoying life, building my business and helping others to build lives they love!

And this is where I am hoping you can help me.

It was a friend, and then a client, and then another friend who suggested that I set up a page so that people can donate to support me with raising the funds I need. I was hesitant at first, given how many worthy causes that there are in the world. But then I read this quote on Instagram and it positively challenged me and helped me see that it is ok for me to ask for help too:

"I give myself permission to ask for help, stating what I need is not a sign of lack or inadequacy, but of self awareness and vulnerability. I am deserving of support." - Alex Elle

I would like to offer you a token of my appreciation in thanks for your donation and generous support - kind of like crowdfunding campaigns do when someone is starting a new project or business.

So far here are the suggested options which you can choose from:

1 - A personalised hand-written poem
2 - A mini motivational call with me
3 - A positive-vibes-packed weekly email from me

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know so that I can add them to the list. Someone suggested a dinner date with me, but that is just a tad too weird, although I do love good food...

I have done my research, had the necessary consultations and finally found a surgeon that I like AND trust. They understand that I want fixing, not Pamela Anderson-ing. They have also offered me a discount if I can book in and make the initial £500 payment before the end of this month (December 2018). This will mean I can have the surgery early next year (potentially as soon as January) which would be incredible. So that is what I am aiming for!

If you can donate anything at all every penny will count towards helping me cover the cost of this operation so thank you, thank you, thank you. Once you have made a donation please message me to let me know which of the above tokens of appreciation you would like to receive.

If you cannot donate please know that your prayers, good vibes and positive intentions are all warmly received.
I have also started a massive clear out at home and am selling everything I no longer need from blenders to Jordans to help raise the cash! If you have any other fundraising ideas, please let me know x

Thank you so much for reading this far and having an interest in my health and wellbeing. I appreciate you.

Wishing you a positive rest of the year.

With love and light,

Naomi x
