My name is Syd and I am a Fighter.
I fight for racial, social, and gender justice.
I fight for LGBT rights.
And now I am fighting for… Trans Visibility in Boxing.
I am raising $5000 before the end of 2018 to be able to train and fight in the Men’s Amateur Division of Boxing of USA Boxing.
After beginning medical transition last year, I thought that I would never be able to fight again because I was transgender. I trained around the world as an amateur boxer for seven years in the Women’s Division at the best gyms in Europe, and now I am grateful to return to the famous Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn to train with my former coach, Don Saxby. After coming out to my coach as transgender and speaking with the great folks at Gleason’s, I will be able to fight again with the support of Gleason’s community, but I need your help to reach that finish line.
Fighting is so important to me as a trans person as it means that I can get back in to my body and really take ownership over it. While I’ve succeeded in my first steps towards boxing again, I need your help to reach the finish line.
Gym fees and trainers’ fees are pretty expensive. Your donation of $10 or more will help me pay for the following:
-Gym fees
-Trainer’s fees
-Equipment
Through supporting and believing in me as a boxer, I will pay it forward through coaching trans and gender non-binary black and POC folks in New York City. Through my training and boxing lessons, I will raise awareness about trans and non-binary folks’ rights and willingness to get back into our bodies, get into the ring, and have a good time while doing that while building community with other trans and non-binary folks.
I told myself if I could get 500 of my friends to donate $10, I would be able to make my goal.
