URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED FOR SWEET SOPHIE
I created this fundraiser to immediately raise money for Lymphoma treatment for our little dachshund and fur-baby, Sophie! Donations of any amount will help Sophie fight her battle with Lymphoma!
Our 8 year old dachshund, Sophie, has been a source of so much joy and love for our family, especially my mom, who is fighting her own battle with Late Stage Chronic Neuro Lyme Disease. Sophie has always provided comfort when we are sad, and she is always ready to play with her purple King Kong donut. She is a source of much happiness and unconditional love. Just six months ago, Sophie’s fur-brother, Noah, went to the Rainbow Bridge after a long, brave battle with kidney failure and heart failure. With Sophie by our side, she helped us grieve the loss of Noah and helped us smile through the tears. Up until a week and a half ago, she was her silly, energetic, healthy self.
On Sunday, November 15, 2015, we were giving her hugs and kisses when we discovered big lumps on both sides of her neck. Immediately we took her to the vet the following day where she had blood tests done. The results of the blood tests were not favorable with an extremely low white blood cell count, as well as other negative markers. She was placed on antibiotics with an initial diagnosis of infection of her lymph nodes and sepsis of her blood. She requires fluids and medications to be given throughout the day.
On Saturday, November 21, 2015, Sophie went back to the vet to get a fine needle aspiration procedure, which is a type of biopsy procedure where they take a thin needle and insert it into an area of abnormal-appearing tissue or body fluid. As with other types of biopsies, the sample collected during fine needle aspiration can help make a diagnosis or rule out conditions such as cancer. Just getting to the root of Sophie's illness has been costly with mounting veterinary bills that already total $500 in one week's time. Care credit is not an option! It has been maxed out due to the health crisis we went through with Noah! Without humbly reaching out for donations, we will not be able to seek treatment to help Sophie fight!
On Tuesday, November 24, 2015, our vet called with the results of the fine needle aspiration, as well as the recent blood test results. Sophie has been diagnosed with Lymphoma! We are heartbroken! Lymphoma has no cure! Lymphoma is a life-threatening disease that must be treated as soon as possible due to its rapid progression! Her veterinarian told us her prognosis is 4-6 weeks, but I am hoping for more time! Although her illness is terminal, her vet told us that it is not yet time for her to go to the Rainbow Bridge. He also told us he will let us know when that time arrives. Medical funds are needed immediately if we are to continue with any treatment and supportive care with her veterinarian.
This fundraiser is something I feel in my heart I have to do. I could not bear the thought of Sophie going to the Rainbow Bridge too soon knowing that I could have helped her if only I had the funds to do so. I will be her advocate because she is a part of my family and I always fight for the ones I love.
Please help me afford the necessary care she needs to help her through her terminal illness and to make things as comfortable for her as possible from here on out.
