Support SCID Newborn Screening
Donation protected
We are the Immune Deficiencies Foundation of Australia, a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity caring for people who have Primary Immune Deficiencies (PID).
A Primary Immune Deficiency is a disorder where the immune response is reduced or absent. PIDs are caused by defects in the genes that control the immune system, so people with PID are born missing some or all of the parts of the immune system.
The most seriousPID is SCID (Severe Combined Immune Deficiency). Often known as the "bubble boy" disease, SCID is a severe life-threatening illness.
Babies are still dying in Australia from SCID. If diagnosed and their bone marrow transplanted within the first 3 months of life, a child has a 95% chance at survival.
Newborn screening for SCID will prevent infant deaths from undiagnosed SCID and also enable the potential diagnosis of other primary immune deficiencies.
We need your help!
DONATE to this campaign. We are aiming to raise $1,000,000 to fund a year long pilot to kick start the SCID newborn screening program and prove its value for Australian children and their families.
SIGN the letter of support for our advocacy campaign to the Federal government to add newborn screening for SCID to the Guthrie test, done at birth to all babies.
Too many lives have been lost due to late diagnosis of SCID. Please help us, help them.
Please Support SCID Screening.
