Support My Sister!

My name is Joshua Hey. As many of you know already my sister, Kate, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, 2 years ago when she was 19. She went through a year of harsh chemotherapy and a 10-hour surgery to remove the tumor in her lower right leg along with a full knee replacement, 2 cadaver bones & a rod put in. With some physical limitations and taking a year off from college, I’ve never met anyone with the determination and positivity she has.

This past Summer Kate had her 21st birthday & took a class to get a head start on the semester she was going to face in the Fall, but another diagnosis took her by surprise. She was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome also know as “Pre-Leukemia.” This diagnosis requires her to be hospitalized for at least a month & will keep her from living a normal life for 6-9 months. She will have to go through 8 days of 3 different kinds of chemotherapy to wipe out her entire immune system. Then she will need a Stem-Cell Transplant. The cool part about this is I AM HER DONOR!! I was a perfect match & will be giving my sister my bone marrow. Kate will be missing yet another year of college and her life will have to be put on hold again. My mother will be out of work & staying with Kate for the month that she will be inpatient and the month they will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house in NYC.

Kate goes to Sloan on Monday Sept 14th for her Picc Line to be put in and that is when she will be admitted. Sept. 15th starts Chemo & Sept 24th is transplant day! With this going on I don’t want my family to be burdened with any financial trouble that this will put them in. Any amount will help my family during this time! I will also be updating everyone as often as possible! Help me reach the goal!! Thank you!!
