Kais Al-Qualisi
In 2011 a wave of revolution spread across the Arab world reaching Yemen.
British filmmaker Sean McAllister visited Yemen to capture the uprising of the revolution and met tour guide Kais Al-Qualisi. This resulted in the powerfully moving documentary 'The Reluctant Revolutionary'. Kais was already struggling to feed his family as the tourism industry collapsed, but he embraced the revolution and the change that would come along with it.
But the revolution didn't immediately fulfill its promises and the situation for Kais has only gotten worse. The Saudia Arabia led intervention in Yemen has now left Kais and his family homeless and they're all living in a single room after having to sell most of their possessions for food.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
We want to raise as much money as possible not only to help to Kais, but to spread awareness on the desperately under-reported situation in Yemen.
We, Nottingham Alternative Film Network, have already raised £400 by screening 'The Reluctant Revolutionary' in Beeston, Nottingham . But, we need more to grant Kais and his family some form of security.
You can join us
All the money that we raised during our film screening will go directly to Kais and his family.
You can help us by donating to help us send even more.
What's more, you can even set up your own film night, screening 'The Reluctant Revolutionary' as a fundraiser for Kais and spread the word in your own community about the crisis in Yemen.
Thank you.
