Support the family of Hala.

Here's the story - A family of 5 escape the fangs of suffering and death in war torn Syria. They lost loved ones, their wealth, their land, their honor - yet they were hopeful for a better life. They had each other by their side and that was their strength. They were hopeful that one day they find a home together, where the parents can see their kids grow young, and the kids see their parents grow old - in safety.  This dream did come true when the Albarhoum family landed in Abbotsford and were greeted with hugs and gifts. The family was one of the Government Sponsored Refugees that arrived in Canada over a year ago.  However, their joy and happiness were struck by a huge tragedy on the morning of 1st December 2017- when one of the daughters, Hala, 9 years of age, was hit by the bus on her way to the school. Hala was taken to the hospital where she passed away.  The family has been in financial difficulties especially ever since the government support ended after a year of their arrival.  The money being raised will not compensate for their loss, but we hope that it will help the family cope with the expenses and assist them to get past this tragedy. We hope the funds will help the family support the growth of the other four kids who just lost their loved sister, Hala. About me: 1. My name is Adnan Bhat and I currently reside in Richmond. 2. I have been a very active member of the Abbotsford Islamic Center and I am friends with the family and know them well.  I have been involved in their resettlement.  3. All the funds will be handled by myself in collaboration with Abbotsford Islamic Center (AIC). AIC has been the main stakeholder in managing the refugees that came over to Abbotsford. The funds will be used to support the basic needs of the family, such as transportation, grocery, education of the 2 kids. They will also be used to help the family survive any period of unemployment Hala's father goes through as he has struggled to find a stable job. The funeral costs around 3k and the burial will be on 02nd December in Chilliwack. Roughly, 5k have been planned to purchase a vehicle for the family and the rest would be used for basic essentials and other expenses. 4. I will be withdrawing the funds to my personal account which will be reviewed by the senior executives at Abbotsford Islamic Center. The funds will then be given to the family. AIC and the volunteers that have been assisting the family will assist them in paying for any pending funeral expenses and managing further spending. I will be handling all the funds in collaboration with the Abbotsford Islamic Center (AIC). AIC has been extensively involved in the resettlement of refugees in Abbotsford.
