Hi all,
This is a fundraising page for Sam, some of you may know that he has been through many struggles and now he faces even further difficulties. There are many people out there who have supported him and we are very greatful for this.
In September 2014, Sam was arrested in Bangladesh and held without charge or trial for nearly three years. The allegations against him were baseless and he and the family were threatened by corrupt Bangladeshi officials. After much support, we managed to find a good lawyer who was able to get him bail with financial support from you. However, he constantly had threats of being rearrested and was refused help to return home to the UK.
He was then advised that he may be able to apply to return home if he went to another country, we were also advised of this by a lawyer in the UK, and so he travelled to India. Sam stayed with people who had approached him in Bangladesh and who said they could help him return home. They financed and arranged for his travel into India and paid for his food, travel and lodgings in India once there.
What he wasn’t aware of was that these were undercover police officials who were waiting for the right moment to arrest him and put him in jail, they wanted to link him to similar charges as he was held in Bangladesh which would benefit a current media story going on in India. Subhan’Allah you would think this was something out of a movie and not real life. He was tortured and questioned under extreme interrogation, and now he faces a lengthy prison sentence in India, based on further false allegations. All the evidence is circumstantial and has been made up by the Indian intelligence agencies, there are many stories of their corruption if you research and look online. The lead officer has placed pressure on Sam to plead guilty saying if he doesn’t they will add more charges against him, his current lawyer is working pro bono but he has many cases and isn’t likely to prioritise this unless he gets paid, and sadly we are unable to afford a good lawyer to get him off and bring him home.
If you can spare some time to keep him in your prayers we would be very greatful, anything you can donate will go towards Sam’s lawyers fees and to making life just a little bit more bearable in prison as he is currently in a very poor state in an insect infested, dirty prison, where conditions are unsanitary.
