Supporting Rico and Lady

$250 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 6 people in 5 months
I recently purchased the old “Woof and Purr Inn”, a boarding kennel.  We inherited two surrendered dogs with the kennel, Rico an approximately 10-year old Pitbull Mix (pictured above) and his “sister” Lady, an approximately 8-year old Pitbull Mix (pictured below).

Their owner was diagnosed with brain cancer over a year ago.  She was boarding them until she recovered.  Sadly, she never did.  Lady and Rico have been at the kennel for over a year.  They get to see all the other boarding dogs go home to their families while time after time, they never do. We are doing everything we can to change that and get Rico and Lady their very own “Forever Homes”.

We are in the process of working with a behaviorist who is evaluating them and will give us a program we can follow so that, hopefully, they can be adopted.  Currently they are enjoying their new beds, blankets, toys, chews, loving attention and petting.  They were fine with collars, leashes and short walks.  Our next step is to get them into the play yard for some “freedom” and fun.

Lady and Rico both need medical attention.  Rico is incredibly thin, has an eye infection and sores.  He required a full work-up with x-rays.  Lady will go in for her check-up and bloodwork next week. We are ONLY asking for donations to cover their vet bills and the consultations with the behaviorist.  We are more than happy to provide the rest.  We don’t want additional money. Any support is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  Petra and Patty of Playful Paws at Petra’s

Rico’s Story:

Hello Furriends, Rico here! It’s tough being an old man but I’m trucking on through. I just visited the vet and got a clean bill of health! Not only that, but I’m finally gaining a few pounds! Maybe now Lady can stop telling me I’m so thin BOL! (That’s Bark out Loud for my non furry friends!) I’m glad I’m gaining weight, and it’s all thanks to the pawsome and loving staff at Playful Paws at Petra’s for giving me and my sister a chance. With their help, I hope to be able to make lasting bonds with people and possibly find a furrever home. This week, Lady is going to visit the vet—I told her not to worry because they always give treats, and I think she’s looking forward to it!

That’s all for now, but I’ll be back with more updates next week!
