#SmilePlay for BC

There is little question that disasters have the potential to have long-term psychosocial impacts on individuals, families and communities.  Unfortunately, not everyone has the ability to cope without additional support.  Children, especially, will require focused or specialized supports and strategies to reduce the risk of developing longer-term mental issues as a result of the disaster.
The Layla Isaac Foundation is an award winning, Fort McMurray-based nonprofit organization that provides enough time and safe spaces for children to play, especially in situations of crisis. Our #SmilePlay charitable project is designed to promote the mental health, wellbeing and resilience of children impacted by the BC Wildfires. The project was developed from our experience delivering a similar project to over 7000 beneficiaries following the 2016 wildfire in Fort McMurray.  In addition to procuring project materials, funds raised will be used to mobilize a team of play workers who will spend dedicated time in communities impacted by the British Columbia wildfire.  The team will implement our focused play-based pyschosocial recovery intervention to meet the unique needs of children and families.  We are currently working with communities in BC to identify specific timeframes and delivery strategies that will work for them.
