Supporting Girls in Thailand!

Donation protected
Young girls living in poverty in Thailand are at extreme risk of being trafficked.

A Buddhist monk, Mr. Hartanto, has set up a training program for 26 girls per year to receive formal schooling to become nursing assistants. Information about the program is shared through the rural schools and girls are encouraged to apply. Once accepted into the program, the 17 year old girls bravely leave the only homes they have ever known (some come from government boarding schools because they were orhpaned, some live with relatives or people in their community) to travel alone to Bangkok.

They live at Wat Arun (iconic buddhist temple in Bangkok) and are provided a bed in a dorm room and meals for one year while they study. Mr. Hartanto and his staff also teach meditation and support the girls with important life skills training. After this first year, they live at the local hospital for 2 years while completing their internship.

The first month after graduation is challenging, as the girls do not yet have an income. The purpose of this gofundme is to provide a graduation gift of 1000thb ($30usd) to each of the 26 girls. Minimum wage in Thailand is about $9usd, so $30usd is about a week's wages.

I invite you to be a part of this effort and support these young girls with a gift of $30usd and, if you like, a personalized note. The girls are so very humble and sweet, and I can only imagine the reaction they will have to receiving support from the world community.

If you would like to send a note, I will provide you with a girl's name and my mailing address. You can send me a physical card or email me the note and I will write it into a card to give to the girls on their graduation day on March 29, 2017.

If you would like to simply donate money with no note, I will be taking the total amount of money collected and divide by the 26 students. If more than $737 is collected, they will each receive more money in their graduation card.

I had the opportunity to meet the girls in the current graduating class and Mr. Hartanto thanks to my sister, Grace. It has forever changed me and I am so very happy to have the ability to support them. Join me!
