Supporting Ben's Road To Recovery

Ben Sainsbury (aged 16) was involved in a serious motorcycle accident on Monday 4th September whilst training for the final state round for a sport he has so much passion and love for. During Ben’s warm-up laps Ben was sent over the handle bars landing head first with his back taking the impact of his motorbike. The RAC helicopter was called in as Ben’s injuries were so severe.
Ben suffered a severe spinal injury shattering his T5 & T6 causing spinal cord damage, broken ribs and a torn spleen.
On Tuesday the 5th Ben under went surgery to insert 2 rods from his T2 to T10 and screws stabilising his vertebrae. Ben spent 5 days in ICU in a critical condition and has recently been moved to the spinal ward within the hospital whilst awaiting a transfer to Fiona Stanley when he is more stable.
Due to Ben’s injuries he currently has no feeling from his chest down and requires intensive therapy.
Ben has always ensured he has worn the best safety gear whilst riding, which he was also wearing at the time of the accident. Ben is a well loved and respected member of the community who is always willing to help anyone anytime, although he is only 16 he is mature beyond his years, smart, intelligent and hard working. Ben was looking forward to finishing his first year of his electrical pre apprenticeship in the next few weeks which he was passing with flying colours and looking forward to going out into the work force.
We are hoping to give back to Ben what he has given to so many others by hopefully raising funds to get through the immediate costs upon the family to help with unnecessary stress for Ben’s long road to recovery.
