time to heal and grieve for Nirrimi

As many of us have read over the last few days, Nirrimi's brother Zake took his own life on Saturday. This is devastating news. When we see a friend we love hurting we want to help.

We (a group of Nirrimi's close friends) would like to be able to provide her help in the most practical way we can think of right now. Nirrimi's support network of loved ones is scattered all over the globe - most of us do not live locally to the Sunshine Coast where she resides with her small family. We aren't able to pop over with food, or offer to help babysit while she can cry, shower or process.

We have come together to ask anyone who wants to help, to give her the next best thing we can think of.

Grieving at any time is exceptionally difficult, but grieving while having financial stresses can be impossible.

Through this funding campaign, we would like to give Nirrimi the time that she desperately needs to grieve without the financial stresses of returning to professional work right away. We would also like to help her cover the additional expenses of travelling to Townsville to be with her mother during this time, and to be there for Zake's funeral.

As most of you know, Nirrimi is self-employed. This means she is not able to access holiday pay or bereavement pay. Just this month she moved to the other side of Australia to be closer to her family and has a lot of expenses in setting up her life in a new town.

We would love to give Nirrimi this gift of relieving her financial stress at this awful time. We know Nirrimi is in the hearts of many people even outside our immediate friend group, and many of you have expressed that you would also like to help her in some way. We see this as a practical way we could come together to make a huge difference to Nirrimi and her family.

We have set the goal at ten thousand dollars.

We hope within this to cover:

- Living expenses for 12 weeks.

- Travel to and from Townsville to be with her mother, and to be there for Zake's funeral

- And payment for professional grief support, if Nirrimi decides she would like to access this service

If this campaign were to raise anything in addition to this amount, we would love to also be able to give financial support to Nirrimi's mother, Donni.

Like many of us, Nirrimi wouldn't ask for this support herself, but we would like come together and give it to her, because that's what friends do.

As anyone who has been through grieving (especially as the result of a suicide) would know support is what she needs right now.

We think as a community of people who have shared in following Nirrimi since her early teens, this goal is a possibility we can reach together. Nirrimi has spent so much of her life sharing and giving, and has changed so many lives so positively. We would like to give back to her in some way having shared in her story for so long and having grown to care about her so much.

We understand not everyone will be able to contribute to this, but if you are able to, and would like to help Nirrimi in this practical way, any small contribution can help.
