Support For Sweet Baby Luca

On May 29th we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Luca Quinn, into the world. At full term Luca was just over 4 lbs. My pregnancy was closely monitored for IUGR (Intrauterine growth restriction), which involved weekly ultrasounds and non-stress tests.
When she was one day old, Luca suffered a grand mal seizure. After an EEG was performed it showed she was having seizures without showing any visable signs. At one week old, we received a diagnosis for Luca. She has a rare syndrome called Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome.
Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome is a genetic disorder that effects 1 in 50,000 births. It is a partial deletion of the 4P chromosome, the results of which include delayed growth and development, intellectual disability, as well as seizures and other challenges.
Luca spent 21 days in the NICU and continues to see many specialists to manage her condition. Currently, Luca is 2 months old and doing well. She struggles with her feeding tube, but is continuing to grow. She is slowly getting stronger and developing adorable cheeks and a tiny smile that will melt your heart.
We have a long road ahead of us. Luca will need physical and nutritional therapy, neurology visits to manage her seizures, as well as continued specialized care.
Unfortunately, our health insurance only covers a percentage of these medical costs, which date back to my closely monitored pregnancy and Luca’s three week NICU stay.
