I am happy to have a positive report for you today and that's Leif is very well. He is ready to come home and live with me. I have a great plan of support for Leif once he is home.

To make the next steps possible though, we're needing to look to a little collective community support.

Leif is ready and wants to come home to live among family, friends and this big loving community. We long for and look forward to Leif being present and having the long overdue opportunity to grow, play and share his gifts with us all.

Last update I told you about was Leif’s doctor reporting of Leif’s fine character and heroic behavior. Leif is clear and present and caring and continues to live according to his fine character.

Here's the challenge we face:

In order for Leif to come home, Leif and I must go to Mendocino County and have a hearing with a jury to grant Leif’s release from Patton State Hospital. This is a great opportunity for Leif, for us, but costly.

We need to raise $7000 for attorney and trial fees.

Recap of Leif's history by Luke:

My brother, Leif is in a supportive mental health facility-Patton State Hospital and has been there for the past 13 years. The care and consistency in treatment, and friendships has helped him tremendously. He is continuously more clear and content.

Growing up, Leif was a kind and caring brother to me, he was and continues to be a bright, intelligent and compassionate person. He was brilliant and interested in literature, gaming and Philosophy. He had earned a bachelor's in Philosophy from UCSB with honors by the time he was 16 years old. He also plays and writes music and books.

At the age of 17 Leif began demonstrating a need for mental health support. Our family clung together and shared many trying experiences in those first years as we attempted to be there for Leif and keep him safe and on a road to recovery.

My mom and I feel, retrospectively, that while our family did our best at that time, we did not have the tools or the understanding that we do now for how to best be there for Leif. Additionally, we found little access to effective support from any professional mental health service and now have a team of doctors and specialists onboard for this next chapter.

Leif deserves a chance to share a life with us and all of you. You, our community, are the love we've been longing for.
