Support Yesi in Guatemala

Donation protected
Yesenia (Yesi) is four years old and lives in Guatemala. Yesi is partially paralysed from a gunshot injury to the brain. She is also an orphan. Yesi was waiting for a bus with her parents and sister when shooters drove past spraying the bus stop with gunfire. Both parents were killed instantly.

She was riding on her dad’s shoulders when they were shot. He collapsed under her and she fell to the ground, bleeding from the head. Yesi now lives with her aunt and uncle.  We need to more to support Yesi and children affected by gun violence.

Yesi had to be carried everywhere or drag herself along the ground until she received a wheelchair from the local charity Asociación Transiciones.  She only has the use of one hand, but she immediately worked out how to mobilise herself. She could barely contain her excitement.

Asociación Transiciones provides life saving help to children. There is almost no state support or safety net for children like Yesi. Only people who volunteer and dedicate their time.

Yesi’s wheelchair cost £350 to make – way beyond most monthly household incomes in Guatemala. Asociación Transiciones used what was left of a grant from Rotary International to make the chair. But Yesi also needs anti-convulsive medication which costs almost £1,000 a year. This is a quarter of her uncle’s annual income and he can’t afford it.

Asociación Transiciones urgently needs your help.

Please support Yesi to live the life she deserves. Help us reach £1,000.

Yesi's guardians have given permission to publish her image and story.
