Sappony Youth for a Healthy Future

The Sappony Tribe has over 850 members made up of seven primary families.  The Sappony have been in the High Plains community since the 1700s” and represent one of the eight North Carolina state recognized tribes.

The Sappony share an important part of history in the High Plains Community in Person County NC/Halifax County VA through the Sappony Heritage Program. The Sappony strive to make sure current and future generations understand the significance of this history.

The Sappony Youth Camp and Heritage Program is a week-long, overnight structured event for Sappony Youth to learn more about their family history and tribal culture as well as to make lifelong connections.

The mission of the Sappony 5K Trail Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run is to bring the community together to have fun, promote healthy lifestyles, and raise money to help support the Sappony Youth Camp and Heritage Program.
