On June 8, 2019, Daniel Pond went canoeing on Smoothstone Lake and did not return. His canoe was found submerged in the middle of the lake by a local fisherman. Attempts via search and rescue teams on land and dive teams in the water have so far been unfruitful. Patrols using sonar and drones were also unsuccessful in locating Daniel.

The Pond family is exploring the option of hiring a private search and rescue dive team in order to find Daniel and bring him home. The Lloydminster Rescue Squad has agreed to take on this task and will head out to Smoothstone Lake this coming week. All they have asked for is their expenses to be covered.

Daniel's friends and family miss and love him a great deal and locating him would bring a great deal of closure.

Thank you for your generosity, love and support.

We are so overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support at Daniel’s celebration of life yesterday afternoon at C3 Church Calgary West. I think we packed the place out with around 600 people! Thank you for all the hugs, laughs, stories shared and comfort given to our family. We are so proud of the impact Daniel made in his community.

Late last night, the RCMP notified us that they had finally recovered Daniel. As a family, we are deeply heartbroken but also incredibly relieved to have closure after 3 painful weeks. We want to sincerely thank the RCMP, underwater recovery team, fire services, search and rescue teams, Xylem, Lloydminster Rescue Squad and HEART Team for their tireless work and for their help in bringing us closure. We are so grateful that we can bring Daniel home.

Thank you to everyone who has provided comfort, love and support these last three weeks. Whether that have been from visits, delivering food and flowers, phone calls, messages, traveling to Calgary to be with us and simply being available for whatever we needed. Thank you to everyone who donated through the Gofundme page and by purchasing Daniel’s prints and canvas. We are so grateful to you.

Thank you for sharing Daniel’s life with us.

We are completely mind blown at the generosity shown to our family in the first 24 hours after the gofundme page was set up. We were not expecting such an incredible response. Our hearts are so full and we truly can’t thank you enough from the bottom of our hearts.

An update for today:

Lloydminster Rescue Squad arrived early this AM and the RCMP approved the use of a helicopter as well. HEART Team from Manitoba are on standby and are potentially coming to the lake early next week to help.

We won’t know the extent of expenses incurred until later on. Any excess funds raised will be given as charitable donations and will help with other expenses. Thank you again for your generosity, love and prayers as we wait to bring Daniel home.
