Support the Parks family with Alex' recovery

Dear friends,

Many of you know that on Feb. 16th, Alex Parks suffered catastrophic injuries and was taken to a trauma center in Denver. Through the faithful prayers of many, God is certainly intervening and we’ve been told of the miracles already being witnessed. I will share with you the latest update of 2/22/2019 from my dearest friend, Lexi, devoted mother of Alex.

“My friends thank you so very much for your prayers and support. It’s very comforting. Alex remains in ICU. Her status is critical but stable. She’s off the ventilator. Broke 8 ribs which punctured both her lungs. Chest tubes remain but she’s breathing on her own! She lost 2/3 of her blood volume; blood county is now stable. Alex was brought to the hospital as a Jane Doe (no ID’s or cell). She remained Jane Doe for 14 hours. She woke up briefly last Sunday, took the nurse’s phone, typed in her name and her dad’s cell and went back into a coma.  This is how we were notified last Sunday. Her team of physicians did not expect her to survive last weekend. Today they are cautiously optimistic. Despite the head injury, brain function is completely fine. Her sarcastic sense of humor is intact! Once she was stable she was in surgery for 8 hours on Monday. From her neck down, most of her spine has been fused, repaired. Her spinal column separated from her pelvis. Her left leg was shattered. We are praying that the reconstructive surgery will heal. More surgery will be next week to repair her fractured hip, shattered pelvis and more reconstruction on her legs. Her hands, arms and shoulders were not injured. Alex is one of the strongest people I know. Quitting is not in her vocabulary!! Please keep the prayers coming! Thank you.  Lexi, Fred and Dave Parks.”

Since the update, Alex has suffered some setbacks. With such extensive injuries this roller coaster pattern may continue. Thus far, it has been a true testament to the power of prayers and the family asks that you please continue your petitions for Alex’ recovery. Some of Lexi’s friends have asked for a means to also assist financially to help defray the enormous medical costs that will fall upon the family for all the trauma care, surgery and lengthy therapy. Lexi and Fred have been my family friends for over 40 years. Our dear friend Michaeline and I have, with the family’s consent, begun this GoFundMe account for those who wish to extend monetary assistance in what will surely be an astronomical medical bill. Once funds are donated, Lexi and Fred will have sole access to account. Through the generosity of many, we will hopefully be able to lighten the extreme stress and burden of the financial side of Alex’ long road to recovery. And your unified prayers will, as God sees fit, help Alex continue to heal and gain strength. We thank everyone for all the loving support you have shown this family during this struggle.

Update as of 2/26/2019 a.m.  :   Alex is in surgery now. Her pelvis and fractured hip are being reconstructed, along with repair of tendons in R knee, ripped Achilles tendon, plus repair of the R hip.  Echocardiogram showed that bruising on the heart is significant but trending cardiac enzymes are negative for muscle damage! She does have bilateral pneumonia and will be having  liters of fluid drained from lungs while in OR. One physician said they are amazed her kidneys are unscathed, considering the damage to her low body, and they continue to function well--had her kidneys suffered damage, her condition would be worse. Also starting to make some headway on her pain management. PT was able to get her dangling. Last week the family was prepared for the worst, as Alex wasn't expected to survive. But the family feels she may have finally turned the corner. From Lexi: "There is no doubt in my mind that God is with us. God is great. The outpouring of love and support is just amazing." The Parks family is joyfully overwhelmed and thankful for the tremendous amount of support, good wishes and continued life saving prayers being offered for Alex' recovery.
