Support the LGBTQ Caravan

Friends, urgently in need of funding for the LGBTQ contingent of the caravan crossing Mexico!

As some of you know, I'm working closely with organizations and individuals dedicated to the LGBTQ contingents of the refugee caravans. In summer 2017, I had the privilege of meeting the person who has, for several years, organized and accompanied lesbians, gays, transwomen, and non-binary peoples across Mexico to the U.S.-Mexico Border . This person needs our help! They are currently in Oaxaca without the funds to get to the now in movement caravan.

This GoFundme would go directly (with no middle person other than myself) to the pockets of the person to join the caravan and to the known 3 trans women, 1 lesbian, and 1 gay man who are part of that caravan. Perhaps it goes without saying that this method is necessary: Funding via official or institutional channels simply does not arrive to the south of Mexico or to Central America.

This news report cites 2 dozen LGBT identifying peoples in the now converged caravan: https://rewire.news/article/2018/10/19/lgbtq-migrants-heading-to-the-us-from-honduras-are-not-going-to-give-up-on-their-american-dream/?fbclid=IwAR2plzl6bZYouHZdzhW3Vd4J2vukrQWEdupb8993eG3iBtmd9_onVEokzJg

Caravans, as many of you know, are not egalitarian societies. And so when it comes time to line up for food or resources of any kinds, these lines are often organized by normative conceptions of family, gender, and sexuality, thus rendering the journey particularly precarious for LGBTQ folks. When they arrive in towns that might offer safe harbor, the often religiously directed asylums turn away those who are visibly, to the minds of these religious directors, LGBTQ. Perhaps it goes without saying that transwomen have been the population most targeted for violence, denied entry, and denied adequate food and other life-saving goods, such as medicine.

Please help me support the few individuals, such as the one to which this money will go, who specifically help LGBTQ migrant populations. Right now, the money they need is little and it will do so much! It will provide food, medicine, and shelter to the LGBTQ peoples who may be denied such vital resources, even inside the caravan.

Upon my arrival in Tijuana in November, and upon the arrival of the caravan (slated for December), I may reach out again as there will be an urgent need to find shelter for the LGBTQ folks who are fleeing great violence.

Thank you so much! Seriously, every dollar makes a huge difference!
