British Junior Gliding Team 2019

The 11th FAI Junior World Gliding Championships 2019 take place in Szeged, Hungary from the 28th July to the 10th August 2019. The world’s best under 26-year-old pilots will be racing for the highly coveted title of Junior World Gliding Champion.
The Team
The British Junior Team consists of pilots Finn Sleigh (21), Jake Brattle (24), Simon Brown (24), and Pete Carter (24) with Clement Allen (22) and Henry Inigo-Jones (18) in reserve.
The competition field of up to 100 pilots from around the world is split into two classes:
Club Class
Finn and Jake make up the Club Class pair. Last time around, in 2017, Jake finished in a creditable 5th; 2019 will be his final shot at becoming World Champion. Finn also flew in 2017, although at age 21 he has more Junior Worlds ahead of him. Both go into the competition as strong medal contenders.
Standard Class
Simon and Pete are the standard class pair. This will be their first exposure to competition at international level, but as fast, experienced and resourceful competition pilots there’s no doubt that they’ll be in contention for the top spots.
Reserves
Clement and Henry will train with the rest of the team throughout the summer. It’s important that either is ready to step in if needed. Their training will allow them to build on their talent and help ensure our Junior Team remains strong into the future.
How you can help
The team are fundraising to help support their demanding training schedule and to ensure they arrive at the World Championships as best prepared as possible. The money raised will go directly to the pilots, and will be used to cover:
Competition and training
Competition entry
Glider hire
Glider maintenance
Accommodation
Travel associated costs including fuel, tolls, insurances etc
Other crew and team related costs
Merchandise
As a token of recognition for your donation the team has a small assortment of merchandise that will be awarded to anyone that meets the relevant donation criteria and fills out the merch form here for t-shirt sizes and shipping details. Please ensure you complete the form by the end of May 2019.
If you do not wish to claim any of the merchandise, then you do not need to fill out the form.

The team can also look at a corporate flying outing.

This funding is vital to allow the team to practise in multiple competitions and training courses prior to the World Championships; this will give them the best shot at bringing back that silverware!

Throughout February to April 2019, the team will be running a series of workshops and talks at various gliding clubs across the UK. There are workshops and talks to suit everyone from complete novices to more experienced cross country pilots. Find out if we are coming to a gliding club near you!
