Please help us raise funds necessary to compete in the 2017 Odyssey of the Mind World Championships at Michigan State University at the end of May. All donations will be greatly appreciated by these kids who have worked very hard to earn this opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you!
What is Odyssey of the Mind you ask?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational unique problem solving competition created to teach children to work together as a team to solve a predefined (long-term) problem. There is no instant gratification in Odyssey, teams work for 4-6 month to solve the problem by following pages of stringent guidelines. They write their own script, build their own props and design & make their own costumes. Then they are judged on both long term and how well they work together to solve a spontaneous problem presented to them in front of judges on the day of the competition.
The first competition is a regional competition; where only the top 2 teams advance to the state finals. This Penn Hills team took 1st place advancing them to the State Level where only top 2 advance to the world finals. We are proud to say this Penn Hills Team took 1st place at State Finals!
Advancing to the World Finals is a tremendous accomplishment and task at the same time. This team is one of hundreds of teams from the United States competing along with over 60 teams from other countries. The team will need to raise a little over $8,000 to be able to participate in the World Finals competition, which is being held at Michigan State University this year at the end of May. The team will need $3000 for the entry fee due by April 15th and funds for lodging and travelling there with their props.
The team has planned other fundraisers. A fundraiser at Carnivores will be on Wednesday, April 19th from 6:00-8:00. The team will be washing cars on May 13th & 14th at Arbys (Frankstown & Saltsburg). There will be a bake sale at 8:00 am at Linton on May 16th (Election Day). Donations for auction baskets and baked goods will gladly be accepted.
