In the current world of "fake news", schools need resources that are easily accessible with quality, authoritative, accurate information. In Kentucky, we have the KY Virtual Library.
With a subscription to KYVL, users can access...
* databases that provide research from elementary school to college level
* test prep resources for ACT, SAT, ASVAB, GED and various career related tests
* beginning with 4th grade - additional support for math and English skills --- by high school - additional support for math, English, science and social studies
For over a decade, our school district has financed the subscription to KYVL for all of our students. For the 2016-17 school year, the district only paid half of the subscription and our high school library's budget paid the other half. With recent budget cuts from the state, demands for other classroom resources for every school in our district, along with a 40% cut in the high school library budget, funding for KYVL needs to come from people who want to support our young people in becoming informed decision makers.
To make this resource available to the students of the Bourbon County Schools in Paris, KY - the subscription cost is $2,104 (amount based on the number of students in the district). We are almost half-way through our school year - so the subscription needs to be paid now. There isn't time to research, write and wait to hear from grant opportunities.
Last year, our students used KYVL resources 15,994 times. That's almost 16,000 reasons why your help with providing this resource would be so appreciated.
