****UPDATE****Amazing! We made our mark. We are absolutely floored and touched by everyone’s generosity! All additional funds will go to Nunu’s recovery, lifelong meds, and donated to Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation that addresses inequality in organ donation for racial and ethnic minority communities.

Dear Friends, Family, and Community:

As many of you know, our three-year-old daughter, Nusayba "Warrior Princess" Ali, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) in April 2019. Hepatoblastoma is rare, affecting approximately 1-2 children out of one million, yet is the most common form of liver tumor in children.

Over the past 4 months Nusayba has bravely endured an intense, aggressive chemo regimen and despite all the setbacks, complications, and chemo side effects, we are so so fortunate that her tumors have responded well to the chemotherarpy. The next step of her treatment is a liver transplant. Nusayba has been waiting on the UNOS transplant list (for a liver match from a deceased donor) for almost 2 months without any luck. Fortunately, she is a candidate for a living donor and we were so so touched that there was such an outpouring of those selfless individuals who applied to be a living donor.

The living donor team has been working up potential candidates for the past 6 weeks and our hearts are bursting with joy and gratitude at the news that the they have identified a liver donor who is an excellent match for our Nusayba. There are no words to express our gratitude and love for this generous gem of a person who is helping our daughter have another chance at life. The donor will be temporarily moving to the Washington D.C. area for the transplant surgery and recovery.

While Nusayba's insurance covers the actual surgery/medical treatment post surgery, it does not cover the donor's costs related to the 4-6 week recovery period, including lodging, food, transportation, and required leave from work, and the cost of relocating a family member to be present for the duration of recovery (as required).

Your contributions to this fund will help cover the donor's many costs during this difficult period. Any funds raised beyond the total expense of the donor's recovery will be redirected back to the support fund for Nusayba and donated to the Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation, a NGO (chosen by the donor and us) that addresses inequality in organ donation for racial and ethnic minority communities.

It has been a challenging five months and we could not have done it without your love, support, and prayers. Please keep the donor and Nusayba in your thoughts and prayers.

With lots of love and gratitude,
Sarah & Wajahat
