Support my formation as a Spiritual Director

$805 of $4,000 goal

Hi good people!

In the past year, I've taken significant time to pray and talk to the important people in my life about a call to ministry. In this discernment process, I was guided to consider spiritual direction as part of my ministry.

Spiritual direction  is the ancient practice of being with people as they grow in their spirituality. Our spirituality informs so many aspects of our being, from our careers and vocations to the very questions about what it means to be human. I have always accompanied people on this journey in one way or another, but only recently learned that it had a name, a lineage, and a set of ethical practices worth learning in a community of others. As a result, I was guided to pursue training in spiritual direction through the Shalem Institute's program in spiritual guidance .

My training is already underway and I am currently meeting with directees, working with a director of my own, and am in a peer group of other directors as a form of support and accountability in this ministry. I'm also studying the work of Christian mystics and others in the contemplative tradition, while writing papers for the program.

This program takes two years to complete and includes two in person retreats with the leadership of the Shalem Institute. Your financial support will help me to pursue this work with more time and attention, so that I can better serve others during and after the program. I plan to use the funds to pay remaining program fees and launch my own initiative around intentional living in a time of spiritual, moral, economic, and ecological crisis.

With your support, I can serve better. Pray for me during this time and as always, feel free to reach out to me with questions, concerns, or prayer requests.

With love,

-Lindsey/Luka

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
— 2 Corinthians 12: 9

One of the questions I’ve been asked lately, besides “what is spiritual direction?” is “why are you doing this work?” I hope to answer that question a bit in the video below. In it, I talk about how my journey with brain injury has helped me cultivate and turn towards a call to ministry, specifically spiritual direction. When you’ve experienced deafening physical pain, knowing how to turn it into silence and stillness is a major grace. In that silence and stillness, I’ve found “power made perfect in weakness,” a profound awareness that grace is sufficient and that I am enough. I want nothing more than to accompany others on their journeys, and this formation program in spiritual direction will help me to do that - which is why I need your help.

On to the video!
