We, the parents of the Windy Hill Middle School band program, are joining forces with GoFundMe as they launch their Teacher Appreciation campaign, #WeLoveTeachers , which will donate $1,000 to 100 teachers who can raise at least $500 by May 18th.
To reach our goal, and give a much needed THANK YOU, to our amazing Band Director Carolyn Deck, we would like to invite you to participate in this fundraiser and help us reach our goal.
The Windy Hill Middle School Wolfpack Bands are Beginning Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Symphonic Band. Altogether, they are more than 200 students. Approximately 55% of those students are from low income families. Mrs. Deck believes that ALL children that have the desire to learn about music, should not be turned away due to lack of finances. Her belief is that every child deserves a chance to experience the art of making music and understanding all the elements of its art. These students are afforded the opportunity of renting instruments from the school at a discounted rate. These instruments need to be cared for and maintained. Therefore, we are in need of more instruments and some of the existing instruments need to be replaced and are beyond repairs.
Mrs. Deck joined the WHMS band program as Director of Bands four years ago. She has had over 200 students each year. Her accomplishments include having some of her students make All State, All District and has scored SUPERIOR ratings in both Jazz and Symphonic bands for the last four years! This year, she had 150 SUPERIORS at Solo and Ensemble! Her dedication for her students is admirable but she does not stop there. Amidst all of her responsibilities, she goes into the community and shares her love for music. She has taken her bands to play for the American Cancer Society, assisted living facilities and elementary schools to name just a few.
The countless hours that goes into preparing her students for all of those opportunities, takes not only dedication but the burning passion which she demonstrates every day. It takes a village and she couldn't do this without the help of talented clinicians that help make her bands amongst the best in our district. Her students are constantly challenged and grow everyday in musical knowledge and performance. When they leave her program and further their musical talents in High School, they are very well prepared.
Please support this amazing program and help grow their band program. As Friedrich Nietzsche once remarked, " Without music, life would be a mistake." Let us not make the mistake. Let's step to the plate and show Mrs. Deck and her talented students that we are here to support them. It takes a village.
