Neuroblastoma fund

Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the  fundraising page for our super hero Mirre who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Mirre is a happy, adventurous, curious and cheeky 5 year old. She has an older sister, Liene who is 7. And is excited to welcome her baby brother in September 2017. She loves dancing, baking cakes, yoga, Minions and anything that is a bit crazy. She has a good sense of humour and is very open towards other kids.

What happened?
Our world changed completely 14 July 2017. Mirre has been a bit unwell in the past month and that day the doctors found out why: a large tumor, 15*15 cm, was found in her belly. This has been diagnosed on 19 July as Neuroblastoma stage 3, high risk category. Neuroblastoma is a rare form of pediatric cancer which is often found with kids up to 5 years old.

Mirres treatment
The team in Monash hospital has been great and started her treatment as soon as they could: Saturday 22 July the first chemo of 5 days started. Treatment will consist of a number of intensive chemo's every 3 weeks (for 5 days in a row), stam cell transplant, followed by surgery, an intensive chemo, radio therapy and immune therapy. The whole process is expected to take 8-9 months. This is however the plan. We already learned to take things day by day and see how things go.

Why are we fundraising?
Mirre is just as adventurous as her mom (Vanessa) and dad (Peter). In 2014 we moved from The Netherlands to Australia on a 457 visa, which expires mid 2018. We believe that Mirre, as well as we as a family, are better off back in The Netherlands.

Treatment will be lengthy and we don't want to take any risks: so we're wanting to move at a moment when Mirre is in a good condition. Also our baby boy will arrive soon and we feel we'll really need the support of family and friends in this challenging episode of our life. This is why we hope to raise funds as soon as possible.

When we want to make the move? We don't know yet, this is under discussion with the medical team at Monash as well as the Prinses Maxima Centre in Utrecht.

We're raising funds to cover
- costs of medical expenses in Australia and Netherlands
- travel back to the Netherlands for Mirre and the family (flight, shipping). Update: we are so grateful that PwC Australia (my current employer) and PwC Netherlands (my previous employer) are taking these expenses for their account. It takes a lot of pressure of our shoulders!
- extra expenses such as petrol (especially in NL, where there is only 1 central hospital who does this treatment which is 70/80km from home), parking, stays in Ronald Mcdonals house and taxi rides
- Also we're hoping that the fund will provide some padding as we won't have a stable income upon arrival in the Netherlands and would like to spend some time as a family being reunited again.

Thank you
It's hard to find the rights words to say thank you for helping us out. Your contribution means a lot to us and any amount will make us feel hugely supported.
