Support Miles and the Lima Family
Donation protected
Ten year old Miles Lima is an energetic, confident, outgoing, friendly boy. He loves to travel, whether virtually, or in real life. He loves sushi, trains, and people. He sees people through touch, and can connect with almost anyone. He's been a braille reading champion of Northern California multiple years, and is a gifted pianist and vocalist. He's a beloved son, brother, and friend. He's also a survivor of a rare eye cancer in infancy.
Unfortunately, last month, Miles began to have trouble with his eye. He was taken to UCSF, where scans and biopsies confirmed that his eye cancer had returned. His doctors are proposing 4 to 6 months of treatment. Each month will entail 3-4 days of hospitalization for chemotherapy treatments at a very heavy dose, followed weekly out patient treatments, scans, medication and labs to check his blood counts. He has already started his treatment, and is facing this mighty challenge with his usual optimism, positive attitude, loquaciousness and inquisitiveness. Although the chemo has some uncomfortable side effects such as nausea and stomach pain, he's a mentally and physically strong kid, with a ton of support, and he's so grateful for all of you.
Miles' parents, Kenny and Hawanya, are doting on Miles (as well as their other two children Xavier and Sydney), and will do whatever it takes to get him the best treatment possible. Many of you have asked what you can do to help. Of course, they covet your prayers, positive thoughts and well wishes. They are deeply touched by the care and love of their community.
In addition, if it's in your heart to help them financially, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Any donated funds will be used for travel, lodging, uncovered medical expenses, and missed work.
