Those of you who know Matt Hearn know that he would never ask so I am asking for him.
Matt had been experiencing some discomfort and started going to the Dr. about 3 months ago. They ran tests and tried to figure out what was happening but were unsuccessful. About 6 weeks ago Matt had to go to the emergency room because the pain had gotten worse and he needed relief and answers. At that emergency room visit, they found a mass that had taken over one of his kidneys and was growing at a rapid pace. On July 18th he had surgery to remove a 15 pound cancerous tumor from his abdomen. Matt is recovering from this major surgery and is waiting to see what the treatment will be going forward. At this point it looks like his "out of pocket" requirement will be around $8000.00. I will update this as I get new information.
The Hearn family has made a lot of sacrifices over the past 12 years starting and growing Gateway Church. There are countless lives that will never be the same because of Matt's willingness to be in ministry. There is no doubt that he has been used by God. I know that I am a different, better person and pastor because of his investment in my life over the 11 years I've been able to work along side of him.
I think it would be great for his friends and family to take this one burden off of the family. With everything else they have to deal with through this time, these medical bills shouldn't be one of them.
