I want to start out by thanking you; your kindness means the world to me. The past three months have been the most challenging months of my life. The support I’ve received from family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and total strangers helps me through my tough days.

Status Update (July 9th, 2019)
As you may know, on April 2nd, 2019, I was working on my car in Bucktown when four people attacked me in an attempt to steal my car. During the attack, I was shot in the leg by one of the individuals. The bullet shattered my tibia, and I had surgery the following day to stabilize my leg and begin the healing process. (Here are  some news articles)

The next day, I went into surgery to have an external fixator installed on my leg for about seven weeks. I’ve since had several different braces to help with my mobility as I recover. Last week I was fitted with a new brace that is lighter and easier to move around with, which has been great. I’m currently going through physical therapy to rebuild the muscle in my leg, and I’m able to put about half my weight on it.

Things have been going well so far, however, I've been hit with another surprise. My bone isn’t healing as well as anticipated, and I will not be able to walk without more surgeries. Luckily modern medicine is on my side. Over the next three months, I will be having two more surgeries — A bone graft, followed by intramedullary nailing (which means I’ll have a sizable metal rod put into my tibia bone).

Thursday, July 11th in Chicago
If you’re in the Chicago area, I’d love to see you at the Charleston this Thursday, July 11th from 5p-9p. The owners of The Charleston approached me about hosting an event to show their support, where they’ll be donating all bar sales to help with my recovery costs.
Here’s a link to the event

Why I'm fundraising:
Initially, we knew there was a possibility of additional surgeries, but remained optimistic. I was excited to get back into the swing of things and returned to work about a month after the incident. Once it became clear I would need more surgeries, I made the difficult decision to take a medical leave from work in order to focus on my recovery. I’ve exhausted all short term disability & time off through my employer, which means the additional time from work will be unpaid.

How you can help.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have an amazing support network through this entire experience, and I’m forever grateful for the donations and words of encouragement. Since I’m taking unexpected time off work, I’ve increased the GoFundMe goal.

Additionally, one of the biggest ways to help is by individually reaching out to a few people (via text, email, etc), share the GoFundMe URL  and encourage them to donate a few bucks. it can make a huge impact on the campaign

While it might not seem like much, other quick ways to help include:
- Sharing this post and on Facebook
- Tweeting (or retweeting) about it on Twitter
- Sending an email to friends or coworkers about the situation

Thank You, Again.
I can’t thank you enough for your support, and I’m amazed at the amount of good that has come from such a terrible situation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or text, even if it’s just to chat or say hi. It’s always nice getting words of encouragement.
