Support Kerri Chambers battle ALS

Late October of 2018 Kerri was diagnosed with ALS.  She struggled for months previous without a diagnosis and increasing mobility issues before hearing this devastating news.  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, or motor neuron disease) is a disease that gradually paralyzes people because the brain is no longer able to communicate with the muscles of the body that we are typically able to move at will. Over time, as the muscles of the body break down, someone living with ALS will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow, and eventually breathe.*  We are asking for your help and support, so Kerri has the tools to stay in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her friends and family.

As most of you already know, Kerri is a strong and caring woman who will welcome you into her home and treat you as family.   She dedicated her career to caring and supporting of others as an ER nurse and now Kerri needs the help and support of her friends and community.

We would appreciate any help you may be able to provide. If you are unable to donate at this time, please help us by sharing this with others.  Kerri and Darryl have many close friends across Canada and the United States.  We would love if people could share our request with others who may not be aware of Kerri’s illness or who may want to support Kerri but do not know how.

Your donation will help fund multiple tools:

·        An assistive communication device to enable Kerri to communicate verbally with her family and caregivers.  This is almost an immediate need.

·        A specialized electric hospital bed that adjusts from a lying down to sitting position using a remote control. This allows Kerri to change her position during the night without having to wake up Darryl every time she experiences pain.  Darryl has special ordered one from the US.

·        Installing a ramp at the front door to enable Darryl to get Kerri’s wheelchair out of the house.

·        Repairs and maintenance on the customized van that Darryl has purchased to get Kerri to and from her appointments.  The van is over 10 years old but is equipped with an electronic Bruno Valet seat that allows him to lift Kerri from her wheelchair into the van safely.

·        Renovation of the main bathroom to accommodate a large walk in shower.  Their current bathroom has a standard tub and shower that needs to be removed so that Kerri can safely shower and there is room for her caregiver inside with her.

There will be other support tools that will become necessary as the disease progresses and her needs change.  This disease has also put an immense financial and emotional strain on Darryl.  Darryl is currently working full time and caring for Kerri during the balance of his day.  In the near future he will want to spend more time with Kerri.  Our support will help alleviate the additional financial stresses of a reduced family income during this time.

We appreciate every single dollar you are able to contribute and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
