Support Jim Bonter's Fight against Cancer

Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, neighbour, entrepreneur, Councillor, teammate… the list goes on and on… Jim is many things to many people.
In March 2019, Jim was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a serious form of brain cancer. We were in total shock. Only weeks before he was on the ice playing hockey with his Hurricane teammates, hitting the slopes with his family, and building houses for a new subdivision.
Thanks to the amazing support of his family doctor, and the team at Kingston General Hospital he was seen quickly and had his first surgery. It was somewhat successful, however, most of the tumour remained and the prognosis was dire. After some research into other treatment methods, he connected with Dr. Petrecca, a neurosurgeon and researcher at The Neuro in Montreal. Only 5 weeks later he had his second surgery, to remove the remainder of the tumour.
Recovery from the much longer operation was slower, but each day is getting better and now Jim is ready to begin the next stage of treatment including an immune boosting drug to be taken alongside chemotherapy and radiation treatments. This combination of drugs, has proven successful with other types of cancer, however it is still in the trial phase for brain cancer and therefore not covered by Ontario drug plans. The monthly cost is approximately $10 000.00.
Our goal is $100 000.00. We are also planning some local fundraising events over the next few months and will share those details here as they become available.
If, by the grace of God, Jim doesn’t require as lengthy a treatment as predicted, all monies will be shared with others who are experiencing similar medical needs. Any donation you can give - big or small will help.
