Support Hugo Mejia and his family
On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, Hugo was given a new work assignment for a hospital on Travis Airforce Base in Fairfield, CA. In order to begin work, Hugo was asked to present an ID to enter the Air Force Base. When Hugo presented his California Driver’s Licensewas detained by two military officials and later arrested by ICE.
Hugo was held in a detention facility in Elk Grove, CA for 203 days before he was finally granted a bond from a judge on November 21st, thanks to his courage, faith, and determination and to the commitment and support of his neighbors and community.
Hugo's case is still pending at the 9th circuit and our commitment to him and his family must remain stronger than ever.
Thank you for your support of our community, Hugo, and his family - we know we are not whole without him and it takes each of us to fight for the just world we all strive to live in.
Because of the circumstances in this case, we wanted to let all of the donors know that The Director of the Venetia Valley Family Center, Jessica Marker, will be withdrawing the funds on behalf of the Mejia family and delivering them, as a check, directly to Hugo's wide, Yadira, twice a week for as long as funds are avaliable.
Again, we can't thank this community enough for the compassion, generosity and support you've shown the Mejia family during this terribly tragic time.
We will continue to fight for Hugo's release and return to his family every day.
